It encourages 'social-bullying' by children and disturbingly adults who should know better. These 'bullies' are usually from a certain sector of the public who have an inability to handle the failings of other people, but especially of their own. Worst of all, it manipulates the contestants into showing approval-seeking behaviour, and ultimately when they are not 'approved' god forbid in this show should we see 'begging-like' behaviour.
In England there is a culture of congratuating the loser/s, but the British public are a nation of people who like to create the losers instead of winners (especially in TV 'reality' competitions). So, do the contradictory public show this lack of intelligence/logic in their own day-to-day lives? Who knows.
The ethos of these programmes is one of blamelessness, I think the creators of these programmes avoid taking the blame for any harm done believing that the contestants 'put themselves up' for judgement, and 'know what it's going to be like in the first place', they think the contestants can handle what in some cases has been tantamount to verbal abuse from the judges, this is a typical attitude from a society of individuals who increasingly deny any personal responsibility in the creation of a socially unhappy culture.
BUT most of all I don't like to see the bullying/unrestrained anger at innocent strangers which the British public display in general. There are countless members of the public in their houses watching this programme, who get a kick out of insulting others.
BBC, please take this trash off our screens, it does no one any good, no one is watching the programme to be 'entertaied' they are watching it because they are not-right-in-the-head (I'm sure the majority of viewers are like this).
Coming from a personal angle, the girls on this show have no more an ability to sing than any other, if they must embarrass themselves, and wear demeaning clothes (they all look like children's dolls) for the sake of 'entertainment', I hope they end up wiser at the end of the process than they were at the beginning, but it does not do much for the cause of Women's Rights does it?
AND Sheila Hancock (Yes YOU) for gods sake, if you want to perpertuate the myth that you are a 'bitch' (maybe you really are?) please get a grip, darling you act and look R.I.D.I.C.U.L.O.U.S. (You dish it out so you can take it, right?)
END OF... we hope.
